Edward Jones Print + Motion Shoot #1

Motion + Print for Edward Jones, Shoot 1

5 Days. Six :15 spots. Six image libraries, one per scenario. 28 talent. Sharing 3 spots and images with you in this post, reach out directly to see the remaining three spots.

When Driver Studios/Martin Williams asked us to create these vignettes and photo libraries for Edward Jones, we knew it was a perfect fit. This shoot was headed up by Howdy production company based in Minneapolis with motion and stills carrying equal weight throughout the production.

I wanted each story to feel consistent when looking at a still or :15 spot from the campaign. In this scenario I direct the overall scenes and shoot the stills; I collaborate with talented Directors of Photography to shoot the motion portion. We have developed a system for switching back and forth and optimizing each medium- ask me about it any time.

I love projects like this that involve a level of complexity both in terms of content and logistics. Making it all resonate beautifully across mediums and bringing the agency and client’s visions to the screen is incredibly satisfying both on the directoral and photographer sides.

Spot two tells the story of a couple paying off their debt. I loved directing this real actor couple. On a side note, I’ve been taking acting classes for a few years now to better learn the language and craft of actors. It’s helped my skill set in working with talent on multiple levels- ask me about it sometime, I would love to geek out about it with you!

We build two Edward Jones sets on location. The first was the office location where we shot all the visuals of the advisors. The second, below, was utilized for stills only to represent the front desk area of a local EJ office. We were able to run talent through different scenarios pending client needs.

These small vignettes are so fun to make- combining the lifestyle scenes with the office scenes in each story enriches the experience of the entire body of work.

With some talent we were able to expand the library by adding small stills captures into the production- this actor doubled as the life partner in the above spot and as a runner in the below still.
