Children’s Hospital with Yamamoto

Yamamoto approached us to create a body of work for Marshfield Children’s Hospital.

This was a sweet shoot where the client was looking to create a body of work that felt emotional, authentic, uplifting.

I love working with children. It takes a certain patience and energy to work with kids. Sometimes they are trained actors- in those cases, we work with them to help them portray an emotion in a scene- we speak their language to help those performances resonate on screen.

Often the kids we work with are not trained actors. In this case, we typically take the approach of engaging them in the shoot. It starts with casting, we are looking for kids that want to be on camera.

On set, we play. We keep it moving. If we need to repeat something, we try to mix it up to hold thier interest, to keep it fresh. We listen. We run around. We stay engaged. Kids will tell you exactly what they want- whether in words or body language, it’s all right there for us to listen and interpret into the camera, together.

To make authentic pictures of kids, I think you need to make pictures WITH the kids, not of them. That’s where we get the best moments.
